Granada
Having battled with the blog until midnight I had a nightmare and woke up at three o’clock, still fighting. However got some more sleep and felt completely restored after an excellent breakfast. We had this on the terrase and were told not to leave the table together for more food because the birds would help themselves to anything left on the table! In addition to the usual individual cutlery at the tables you had a pair of small bamboo food tongs each to serve yourself at the buffet.
We then had a three hour guided tour round the Alhambra palaces, including the “Generalife” (look it up on the internet!), the Sultans’ summer palace with its amazing system of water supply to the buildings and the vast gardens - very impressive and most interesting. And also very tiring despite two pauses! After a shortish siesta out again. Andrea had established that the camino did a loop between the Alhambra and the cathedral which we could easily do today. So we did and found the yellow arrows - seeing those it all comes back, the experience of previous caminos. And the walk-about two years ago in the cathedral quarter when Alison was with us - we recognised the shops and bars and ended up in an oldfashioned icecream parlour.
Bought a substantial sandwich and made our way back “home”. This has been a very good day in beautiful sunshine, not too hot, so many interesting things to learn. And now we have packed our rucksacks and are ready for our first day of walking tomorrow.....
