Day 6. Sunday, 28/05/2023. Monterrubio de la Serena to Castuera

First of all a remark about today’s “statistics”: Andrea forgot to turn back on the distance counter(?) after our pause. So there is just over 1 km missing in the overall calculation and of course the 10 minutes or so it took to walk it….

With the prospect of rain and after the experience of last night’s downpour we got up at 6 am and were out just after 7 into a misty morning. Easy walking, road practically all the way, probably not good for the feet. At least I was surprised to find my feet hurting at the end after such a relatively short distance. The last few kms on a sandy track. Not having to watch my step I noticed more details along the road. Bushes with tiny yellow flowers all along the road had turned green with equally tiny fruit over the last few days. The dead olive tree which had fallen. A type of reddish feathery grass I have never seen before….

Our only real pause we had spreading ourselves out ON the road! There was a ditch going all along and the few entrances to the fields were too muddy. Hardly any cars, so it was no problem. But one driver stopped to ask if we were alright.

After a few km there was a big round boulder in the field next to the road and a number of smaller ones for quite a long time - reminded us of the Ploumanac’h rock formations!

Well, the rain did not come while we were on the road - we arrived at midday and after a short nap for me we went on a walkabout looking for bar to have a drink and maybe something to eat. Lots of the bars were closed - elections today, local and regional. The few which were open were packed and extremely noisy. However we managed to find two places up at a bar where meals were served as well. Long wait for our food, but with the brouhaha going on around us we enjoyed a spectacle of Spanish life on a Sunday at mealtime. And I had the impression that we too provided a spectacle for people.

And while we were in the bar the rain came at last, quite a lot, but not as heavy as last night. And as before by the time we left the streets were dry again!

Our walkabout, adding to today’s milage
